Activities
During Meetings
Challenge
A "challenge" may be issued to members to make a quilt following a special theme
or using a special fabric. The completed quilt is due at the June potluck when prizes
will be awarded in several categories. Detailed information will appear in the newsletter
when a challenge has been issued by the Challenge Committee.
Charity Table
Check the Charity Table each month for quilt, pillow, and tote bag kits made up
by the Charity Committee. Some kits will have pieced tops, batting, and backing
to be sandwiched and quilted; some have already-cut fabrics and all will have suggested
patterns. You can bring in your completed donation any month, although you have
until the May meeting to complete any kit. All charity donations are accepted at
the Charity Table.
Door Prizes
Members buy tickets at the Door Prize Table for chances to win prizes.
Fat Quarter Exchange / Blockery
On alternating months, either fat quarters or blocks are brought in by participating
members for an exchange. There will be a theme announced each month, and information
will be in the newsletters. The rules are printed in the September newsletter. You
can join in any time and it is a fun way to build up a stash or to acquire already
made blocks.
Hospitality Table
Members donate a beverage or a table item to be shared during the meeting break.
Any member can bring in any item for any meeting, and it does not have to be homemade.
Library
The Guild has collected a large number of quilt reference books and videos for members
to borrow. See the Library page in the directory for
a complete list of what is available. Check out is at the Library Table. The borrowed
items are due to be returned the following month. A $1.00-per-month overdue fine
will be assessed for late returns. Due to the size, the entire library cannot be
transported to the monthly meeting, only portions choosen by the librarian. Call
the librarian to request a certain book and it will be brought to the next meeting
for you. The name of the librarian is listed on the Committee Roster Page in the
directory. Donations are welcome and should be given to the librarian. If the donation
is in memory of someone, please put a little note inside the book to let others
know.
Pins / Patches Sales
The Fund Raising Committee will have guild items available to purchase at the membership
sign-in table.
Show and Tell
Members are encouraged to bring in their work to share with the Guild. Anytime you
have a completed project from a workshop, a Sit n' Stitch, your own list, or a charity
donation, bring it in to show the members. Having a problem with a technique? Bring
it in, tell us about it. Help is guaranteed.
Slip of the Keyboard
Did you read the newsletter carefully? Did you notice something odd, something that
did not seem to fit or did not make sense in the article you were reading? Every
month our editor has a little fun and hides an outrageous, out-of-place phrase or
quotation somewhere in the newsletter. When you find it, make a note of it. At the
next meeting write it down on the form provided at the Membership-Sign-in table
and put it into the "Slip of the Keyboard box".
Outside of Meetings
Charity
The Guild has designated charities that receive quilts and pillows made by our members.
Members are asked to make and donate at least one charity item during the Guild
year. Size guidelines are available in the September newsletter or from the Charity
Committee. The Charity Committee makes kits with fabric and patterns available to
members. CAMEO is chartered by the state as a charitable organization. This is our
way of maintaining that status.
Charity Day
This is a fun day held each year on the third Saturday of February. It is free to
members, an all-day event during which we work on charity projects. Kits, fabrics,
and batting will be available. Just come, sew, and enjoy. The Charity Day Subcommittee
of the Program Committee plans the day. The monthly newsletter will have information.
Mark your calendar now and save that day for CAMEO.
Hearts and Hugs
Every member is requested to make at least one heart block (in any technique, size,
color). The block(s) should be given to the Hearts and Hugs Chairman listed on the
Committee Roster page. This is the Guild's special way of reaching out to members
in difficult times. It's an offer of encouragement, a get-well wish, or a sharing
of sympathy to let a member know that we care during a time of need. You can also
alert the chairman if a member is in need of a little TLC.
National Quilt Day
March 16th every hear has been proclaimed officially as National Quilt Day. CAMEO
celebrates our favorite pastime the third Saturday in March. It is a day of fun
and camaraderie and a time to work on whatever project you choose. The National
Quilt Day Subcommittee of the Program Committee plans the day. It is free to members.
Just come and celebrate quilting and being a quilter. The monthly newsletter will
have more information. Mark your calendar now!
Quilt Shows
A major Guild event is held every two or three years. All members participate by
becoming involved in committees that plan and carry out the event and, of course,
by entering at least one quilt into the exhibit.
Sit n' Stitch
If you have been waiting to meet with quilters on a smaller scale, in an atmosphere
more similar to a small quilting bee, this is for you. Members meet in individual
homes at a date and time determined by the group. The group may be one that works
on members' own works in progress, or on joint projects like Round Robin or Row
by Row. Check the Committee Roster page in the directory for the name of the committee
chairman if you are interested in forming or joining a group.
Workshops
Special workshops may be scheduled on the third Saturday of the month. The workshop
may be based on the work of the most recent guest speaker, with the guest speaker
leading the workshop, or a workshop could be led by a member who will teach a new
or special technique. The cost of the workshop is based on the speaker fees, but
may on occasion be free to members. Check the Program Schedule page in the directory
for dates and times of workshops. The monthly newsletter will have detailed information
regarding upcoming workshops. Sometimes space is limited, so sign up as soon as
enrollment begins.
Charity Projects
Please take a look at the charity table at each Guild meeting. The charity donations
will be on display, as well as kits for completing charity quilts which the charity
committee made up. The kits contain materials to complete quilts, pillows, an tote
bags, as well as direction on how to complete the kit.
Charity quilts are accepted every month, although you have until the May Guild meeting
to complete the kits for that year.
